Turn curiosity into creation by dabbling in a new artistic technique with our enriching Study Sessions. This two-hour introduction offers the perfect opportunity to wet your palette in a relaxed, low-stress environment. Weaving together the ideal balance between a paint ‘n sip and a workshop, get enough hands-on instruction to decide if you want to dive deeper. This week Programs Manager Brandy Coons will demonstrate reductive charcoal techniques on Thursday, March 6 from 6-8PM.
Used for creating modeled depth in still-life, landscape sketches, and portraiture, reductive charcoal drawing has as many techniques and styles as there are artists using it. Starting with a piece of paper covered in a layer of charcoal, we’ll practice with a variety of tools and erasers to work from dark to light, drawing a still-life setup in the Art Gym Classroom.
